'A FINE GLOVE IF YOU DON’T MIND A BIT OF DAMP.'
Strengths:
I used these gloves for several days sailing off the English south coast in April this year and found them to be an appropriate choice, keeping my hands at a comfortable temperature in the average conditions.

The lining is smooth with no uncomfortable seams and they are very comfortable for brawnier duties, such as helming and working with sheets and warps, and adequately flexible for more precise tasks like operating chart plotter buttons.

The quality of construction is superb, with no untidy edges and all stitching neatly finished. The contact surfaces, which take a heavy abrasive burden when handling lines, are standing up well and will, I estimate, be good for a couple of seasons.
Weaknesses:
For activities needing a delicate touch – leafing through an almanac or (hurriedly!) working up a new course with paper chart, pencil and plotter – the gloves have to come off. This should be no surprise because good thermal insulation usually requires a relatively bulky material – warmth and sensitivity are always in conflict with one another in the structure of a glove!

The back of the gloves is the same neoprene fabric used in wetsuits so the inside of the gloves and your hands get damp from the ingress of rain and spray, which means that the gloves don’t slip back on very easily – it wasn’t a battle but it wasn’t swift.

The sizing of these gloves is unusual. A Large size usually fits my hands but for these gloves I needed the Extra Large (XL) size. Luckily I bought these from a major chandlery stand at a show so trying different sizes was easy. Buying online I would probably have ordered Large and settled for them being a bit tight and assumed that Extra Large would be too big. I don’t regard this as a negative aspect of these gloves; rather it’s a demonstration of one of the main benefits of a physical store when buying clothing.
Overall:
A fine glove providing a good blend of warmth, comfort and flexibility with reasonable sensitivity but inappropriate if you need to stay totally dry.
