| 'ITS LIKE BEING INSIDE, EVEN IN THE WORST WEATHER!' | | Strengths: Pretty much total protection from the elements - stood up fabulously to a week of force 6-7. After a few hours in bad weather, only my head and forearms were wet (probably because I don't like wearing hoods and I never bother to do up the wrist seals). Its also extremely windproof - sit with your back to the wind and the hood up, and you can't feel a thing! | | Weaknesses: The collar is far too tight for me - it can be quite hard to get the velcro to do up while sitting down - a problem I have with my other Musto jacket as well. The pockets can be hard to get into, particularly with a life jacket on. In bad weather the hand-warmer pockets got thoroughly soaked, but maybe that was me putting my wet hands in them... still warm though :) The high collar gives great protection in bad weather, but it makes it very difficult to look around, so not very good for coastal racing. With the collar so tight on mine, it feels a lot like a neckbrace. | | Overall: Superb jacket overall but make sure you try before you buy. The collar thing is a bit irritating because otherwise the jacket is the correct size for me. As its a problem on my other Musto jacket, I presume either I have a big jaw, or their designer has a very small jaw :)
However, without a doubt I would buy this again. Just don't pay the full price ;)
NOTE: I have the old (05 ?) version, with the flat cut face guard thingy. |

| 'AFTER A YEARS USE, THE BEST I'VE USED SO FAR.' | | Strengths: Tough, waterproof, breathes. A good hood design that seems the right size and shape.
| | Weaknesses: Not too comfortable when neck strap is done up round collar, as material so tough and stiff and the valcro and short strap do not allow enough adjustment...(O.K.if you need a neck brace) Collar strap/flap overhang is too short so not easy when gloved up to find end and to locate valcro.Valcro too short on both flap and collar perhaps. Look in a mirror several times to get a better feel for where it should go perhaps and where hood adjusts. Pockets very difficult to open with gloves on as are hand warming slots. For this cost you expect better design in this vital area. Longer flaps perhaps? Very expensive. Lose a £100 and make it more competative! | | Overall: Good quality materials, With the trousers they make a formidable oponent to other manufacturers suits with just a few reservations. I enjoyed getting swamped by waves during a recent voyage and stayed totally dry whilst crew suffered with inferior oilees from ingress of water and sweating. Trousers come in broad fitting...I'm a skinny 5'8" but had the broad trousers for ease of movement and to allow more under clothing/midlayers to beat the cold. With the on-line discounts at certain times of the year you may be lucky with price. I went for a last years model offer at over £100 off and when they couldn't supply I got an offer of only £15 more for the new years model if I was prepared to wait a couple of months for it. I did so. I really trust Goretex. I also have HPX Boots by Musto and Clipper Goretex deck shoes by Dubarry and all totally waterproof.

| 'WHEN ONLY THE BEST WILL DO' | | Strengths: The HPX jacket delivered exactly what it promised when I put it to the test in the 2007 Fastnet - hard wearing yet comfortable, dry and warm. Flap covering the mouth and nose was brilliant. | | Weaknesses: Not cheap - (although still excellent value). It is heavier than the coastal jackets - which is fine when you need the protection. If possible carry a lighter jacket for day use. | | Overall: After getting wet through in my older MPX gear in 5 offshore races this year I was determined to stay dry in the 2007 Fastnet. The HPX jacket delivered. When helming at 2:00am with only my eyes exposed to the elements this jacket proved itself worth every penny. I was warm, dry, comfortable and able to focus on the job at hand. Long after you've forgotten the price this jacket will keep you warm and dry. |

| 'WITH THIS SUIT ON I FEEL CONFIDENT AND 'FIT FOR PURPOSE' !' | | Strengths: For this level of protection against the elements, it is comfortable, flexible and competant wet weather clothing. | | Weaknesses: Only the price £500 is too much unless you're a sponsored Sir Robin K-J Or, maybe this is the price we must pay for durable and comfortable kit to sail in. | | Overall: It came highly recommended to me by a professional skipper and I dont regret buying it for a moment. Nor will you. |

| 'HARD WEARING AND PERFORMS WELL' | | Strengths: Well designed and works well. Easy to wear. Keeps me exeptionally dry. | | Weaknesses: Collar not high enough. Life jacket loops not srong enough. | | Overall: Good quality but expensive. However, if you buy at the right time, discounts down. |

| 'THE ONE TO CHOOSE IF YOU FEEL THE COLD' | | Strengths: It's not just the Gore-tex, it's the hard wearing outer surface as well. This jacket will last 10 years. | | Weaknesses: All closed up, the weather flaps round my neck strangled me. I found it claustrophobic. | | Overall: It's good, but not my choice. I think my body geography is different to their design. And wow, so expensive! |

| 'HIGH QUALITY WITH A HIGH PRICE TAG TO MATCH' | | Strengths: I love the Spume visor to protect face and a hood which is warm as well as waterproof goes down inccredibly well. Very comfortable and like how the gore-tex stretches. | | Weaknesses: Pretty expesive, but worth every penny | | Overall: If you only ever buy one set of oilskins - buy these! |
