'Looks good, expensive, not practical for rough weather!'

Strengths:
Slightly more comfortable than a crewsaver or similar traditional inflating lifejacket. Looks better, and as long as weather is calm and dry it is a better jacket. But then thats not when you normally need a lifejacket.

Weaknesses:
Firing mechanisim is a step backwards, despite companies claims of new and improvedness. Recent rough weather race 100% of the crew that were wearing this lifejacket on the rail, had their jackets inflate. This then means that the crew have to race with out a lifejacket, or wear it inflated, which is not at all practical. The firing mechanisim works by disolving a salt tablet. This mechanisim has always been a problem as it goes off if it gets too much sea spray or even rain on it. This was superseeded years ago by the Hammer mechanisim which works by water pressure. It has to be completely submerged before it will fire. Most of the boats that I talked to that used this jacket in the 2007 fastnet complained of similar problems. If you take this jacket on an offshore race or cruise take at least one rearming kit per jacket. Dont bother with the spinlock rearming kit either, its much dearer than the generic ones and its the same.
