After the huge success of the first South Wales Boat Show, the dates have been announced for next year's event, which will take place at the same venue, Margam Park, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 15th, 16th and 17th.
Organisers Ben and Claire Sutcliffe report that more than £1,000,000 of business was done at the first show, feedback from exhibitors was “fantastic” and already 30 firm bookings have been received for the 2007 event - which will be open for three days instead of two.
“We are using the same formula as before, of bringing together all aspects of water sports. Again we are delighted to confirm continued sponsorship for from Tourism Swansea Bay.
“Margam Park was highly commended by exhibitors, press and public and provides us with an amazing venue that we can comfortably grow into in further years. It also has superb views of the Bristol Channel. The South Wales Boat show is ideally situated. Margam Park is only minutes away from Junction 38 of the M4 and between Cardiff and Swansea,” say Ben and Claire.
They add that the area prides itself on its wide range of marinas, sailing schools and clubs ranging from dinghy to yacht racing.
There has been an explosion of water born activities in South Wales since the Cardiff bay re-development, with “a vast cash injection” in Haverfordwest. Marinas in Swansea and Milford Haven are expanding.
“The new regeneration of Swansea Docks will make it one of the biggest marinas in the UK. A recent survey showed Wales having the highest percentage of the population having a watersport interest of any where in the UK - let's bring it on!”
Ben and Claire are expecting 15-20,000 visitors to the 2007 show and hope to build on the success of this year's free “get afloat, try a boat” event which got more than 500 people on dinghies, jet bikes and canoes.
Ticket prices for the 2007 will be “realistic” - starting from £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for families.
