New Admiralty chart folios for Ireland and Wales

One of the new chart folios

Are you planning a cruise in Ireland or Wales? Admiralty Leisure has announced four new leisure chart folios, covering the east, south and southwest coasts of Ireland and south west Wales, which could make be just what you are looking for. They were launched at the Southampton Boat Show.

A2-sized Admiralty leisure folios are designed to fit for the smaller chart tables found on so many of today's production cruisers. They aim to ensure that you have all the charts you need for each area, from passage planning to landfall. And at £35 each, for a comprehensive selection of charts in its own protective plastic case, they represent excellent value for money, compared with buying the charts separately.

The new Irish East Coast folio, SC5621, runs from Waterford to Carlingford Lough, and contains 19 charts, including detailed coverage of such popular cruising grounds as Malahide, Howth, Dublin Bay, Wicklow and Arklow, as well as two planning charts providing joined up coverage with Admiralty's Welsh chart folios.

The Irish South Coast folio, SC5622, provides coverage from Old Head of Kinsale to Waterford Harbour, ideal for Cork Week competitors as well as cruisers enjoying this stunning area. It joins up with the Irish South West Coast folio, SC 5623, from Bantry Bay to Old Head of Kinsale, for those who want to explore such sought after cruising destinations as Dunmanus Bay and Courtmacsherry Bay.

The new South West Wales folio, SC 5620, providing comprehensive coverage from Barmouth down to Swansea, now means that the Admiralty leisure folio range gives full covereage of the Welsh coast, as well as passage charts for those wishing to cross to Ireland.

With the Irish Sea becoming an ever more popular cruising ground, not least for the riches of its wildlife, as MainSail forum members have testified, these new charts are sure to be in big demand.

The Irish Sea has long been a good place to spot marine wild life; principally basking sharks and dolphins. Horace Dobbs in his delighful 1977 book 'Follow a wild Dolphin' tells the extraordinary story of Donald the wild dolphin that adopted Port St.Mary (Isle of Man) and used to wait in the bay and escort yachts and fishing boats into harbour. He stayed around for about five years then moved over to north Wales for a spell. The last picture I posted on the gallery is of a group of dolphins swimming with us in the Irish Sea.
