From left to right: round the world racer Mike Golding; Rod Carr, chief executive of the RYA; powerboat champion Shelley Jory; and Sam Coombs, current Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year, seen at the Southampton Boat Show, were the first to cast nominations for the Raymarine YJA Yachtsman of the Year and Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year awards.
Anyone can enter nominations, either on Raymarine's stand at Southampton, where the show continues until September 24th, directly from www.raymarine.com and www.yja.co.uk, or by picking up a nomination form at RYA affiliated clubs nationwide. The deadline for nominations is midday on Friday November 3rd.
The Raymarine YJA Yachtsman of the Year and Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year awards recognise British sporting excellence in power or sail and acknowledge achievement - such as breaking a world record, a phenomenal win, overcoming adversity, or showing exceptional bravery and courage.
A shortlist is decided from public nominations and then members of the Yachting Journalists Association vote to decide the winners - who will be announced during the London Boat Show in January 2007.
