Better boat covers on the way

A range of innovative new products at from Contender UK can be seen at the Southampton Boat Show, at Mayflower Park from September 15th - 24th. Visitors wanting to see samples of Perfix, revolutionary new boat cover fixings, Sattler's Nautex Premium breathable and waterproof acrylic for boat covers, and Holmenkol, a range of nano-technology coating products which claim to offer performance advantages, should visit the stand of their sailmaker.

Perfix is a new fastener system specifically developed for marine covers and sprayhoods. Durable and corrosion free, Perfix offers a quick and easy method of fixing a cover or sprayhood to a boat. Unlike other systems currently available, Perfix does not involve any protruding pins, or sharp parts which may cause damage to clothing - or feet - or snag ropes.

Sattler Nautex Premium breathable acrylic is both waterproof and breathable. It offers a solution to the familar problems of mould and corrosion damage normally associated with boat covers. Even in the harsh marine environment, Nautex is said to keep the inside of boats dry by letting moisture out while letting no water or moisture in.

Holmenkol is the oldest ski wax manufacturer in the world and has been at the forefront of research and development of high tech coatings for the ski market. The combination of high performance nano coatings can be applied to many other sports and is now available in the marine market from Contender UK.

Holmenkol coatings are made up of tiny (nano) particles which bond to the surface of the material they are applied to. During the process of application, the particles organise themselves in layers, forming a complete, multi-layered coating. The layered structure means that the coating resists abrasion, because if one layer is damaged, a deeper layer is exposed and acts as a protection to the rest.

Holmenkol's range of advanced coatings offer advantages to performance across a variety of uses. The coatings create low friction, and dirt and water repellent surfaces. For example, coatings applied to sails are said to enable smooth hoists and drops, and less water retention, while a coating on the hull should keep it clean and optimise speed.
