49er World Champions Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks have teamed up with their buddies at Volkswagen to bring you a DVD containing all their 'Inside Information' on racing. Showcasing their talents on Laser SB3s, they share their nautical expertise and let you in on the tips and tricks of the trade which will have you bringing home the silverware.
Commentated by Richard Simmonds, this fantastic piece of cinematography gives a step by step account of how to improve your sailing technique. Though it focuses on dinghy racing, the practical advice is true for vessels of all sizes. Along with instruction on positioning and lessons about increasing the productivity of your sails, it also emphasises the importance of communicating with your crew, a feature which is sometimes missed on other training media. Though most sailors will already be familiar with most of the principles portrayed in this DVD, it is really good to be able to see them put into practice from a selection of angles.
In one of the sections Mark Rushall, RYA squad coach of the year, takes under his wing a crew who haven't been performing very well. He teaches them what he is preaching throughout the film and you can see how much they improve. Let's just say they were no longer in last place.
Being sponsored by Volkswagen, I expected this DVD to be all about advertising. Though there is blatant product placement and branding, it's fantastic to see the sailing aspect of the film isn't over-shadowed by the car.
