It's not the kind of problem you think about, is it? Though you sort of plan for emergencies and have all the gear, if an MOB happens, how do you get your crewman back on board?
Lifting is a problem
Maybe you're lucky and the waves can help - unlikely. Maybe you have very low freeboard and you can reach - a problem by itself. Or maybe you have a swim step aft and can reach your crewman that way. Otherwise you're stuck. Because if you haven't tried it, to straight-lift an inert and water-sodden body out of the water is difficult even if there's two of you. And how do you get a purchase, leaning down over the side?
One-man operation
SeaSafe have just launched a new, award winning Hypo Hoist MOB recovery system. It's specifically designed to rescue a conscious or unconscious person from the water back to the safety of your boat, reducing risk and injury as you do it. Best of all, one person can do it - on their own. Kind of nice to know if you're lightly crewed.
Reduces complications
There's other stuff too. Lifting an MOB vertically can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure, risking cardiac failure and neurological malfunctions. But the Hypo Hoist keeps your victim horizontal and lifts them out quick - reducing the threat and the ever-present danger of immersion hypothermia.
Dual action cradle
The Hypo Hoist works with a dual position cradle - horizontal or vertical. You can either hoist and roll the MOB up the freeboard, level with the deck and back on board. Or you can swing it through 90 degrees and use it as a boarding ladder, offering hand holds for quick and easy access back to the deck.
Multiple awards
The brainchild of Tanya Budd, Hypo Hoist has gained numerous awards including the 'US Coast Guard Award for Maritime Safety' (2006). The invention also helped Tanya win the prestigious 'Young Engineer for Britain 2005-6'. And through SeaSafe Tanya has exclusive manufacture facilities to market her Hypo Hoist worldwide.
