Win this RAY1OIE VHF radio worth £160

Ray101e

This competition has now closed

You're going to love this. Because it's the easiest prize you've ever won. The best too, because it's Raymarine's super-useful RAY1OIE handheld radio, just about the most handy piece of kit you ever got your mitts on.

About the prize

What would like to know first? About the radio? Or how you're going to make it yours? You can of course win one at the Beaulieu Boat Jumble - but since everyone can't get there, we're giving you another bash because the Raymarine people reckon all you people are hot and they like to show it.

Water-resistant

So, let's go with the radio, then you'll know exactly what you're shooting for. All £160-worth remember? Right, it's a Raymarine RAY1OIE, and a very nifty device too. For one thing it's submersible, which means if you're so taken with it you can't let go, you can even use it in the bath.

Rugged and reliable

OK, enough jokes, this really is a serious piece of kit. Just pick it up and you'll know. It feels what it is, rugged and reliable. Top of its class, in fact. Which is not surprising. Staying power comes from six AA-size NiMH batteries - the latest generation nickel metal hydride jobs - rechargeable of course, with a hefty 1,300 mA capacity, so you can probably out-talk your teenager if you have one. If she does out-talk you, a quick charger comes with, so you're quickly back in business. Oh and if you get stuck, ordinary Lucky Dip batteries will work too, though not for as long.

Practical and portable

The thing is dead practical, but then Raymarine know a thing or two about being on boats. Clever stuff, like being able to use it left- or right-handed, with backlit keys because you're going to need at night quite a lot of the time, and with a large, easy-to-read LCD display that you can see large and clear in broad daylight, or in pitch-dark clouded-over midnight darkness. When you're done, you just bung back, Clint Eastwood style, on the mobile-type belt, or hang onto it with the wrist strap.

Additional features

What else? Oh yes, the quick-access 16-plus priority key. And there's a built in tri-watch. Plus rotary volume and squelch control. And they've tacked on a two-year warranty. The submersible bit is serious too - to IPX7 waterproof standard. So you can take it down to one metre for at least 30 minutes - if you can hold your breath that long. Pretty impressive, huh? Just the thing for long baths. The whole dang shooting match, right there in your hand.

What you have to do

Sound good? You're absolutely right it does. And all you've got to do is write a Product Review for the rest of our members. Easy? Like falling off a log. Because whatever it is, like it or hate it, you've just got to tell us what you think of whatever you choose to review. Maybe you used something and it was fabulous. Tell us. Or maybe it was so bad we shouldn't touch with a forty-foot disinfected barge-pole with a boxing-glove on the end. In which case tell us that. It just has to be your honest-to-goodness own opinion, no holds barred.

How do you do it?

This is the falling off a log part. First click on one of the drop-down menus at the top of the left hand column for every page: Site section, Categories, or Manufacturers. For either Categories or Manufacturer, click your way through to the product you choose to review. Or, starting at The Main Sail homepage or Gear section, scroll down to the 'Member Reviews' section and choose your product that way. Remember it has to be something you've actually used so you have a genuine experience to rant about.

Easy-peasy

Once you've sussed your product, click to be taken to the product page where you'll see an option to write a review. What you actually need to write is how you used it in a nutshell. Was it great, was it horrible, was it better than the other stuff you can buy?

Next, just follow what you see on-screen and rate its performance, reliability and value - use your loaf a bit here, there may be different options for different products. That's it, you're done! And you can write as many reviews as you like, but only one per product.

Go to it. You never know, that RAY1OIE could be as good as yours!
