This summer sees the first races of the calendar in the series taking place in Manx waters. The Honda mark is well known on the Island as they are always well represented in the TT (motorcycle) races every year.
The Honda fleet competed last year for the first time in Isle of Man waters in what was considered to be a very successful meet. Honda will also race for the first time on Tyneside, with a return visit to Cowes where they last raced in 2003, followed by Plymouth and Liverpool.
"A lot of time and planning has gone into the 2006 Honda Formula 4-Stroke calendar,” comments Martin Sanders, General Manager, Honda (UK) Power Equipment. “The Isle of Man and Liverpool are popular venues with excellent spectator platforms, good facilities and exciting courses. Cowes and Plymouth are both important venues for powerboat racing: Cowes because of its heritage and the challenge of the 'Round the Island' course and Plymouth because the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Grand Prix combines with the British round of the international UIM Class 1 Championship. The Tyneside location of South-Shields has been chosen not only for the aesthetics of the location but also because of its spectator credentials."
The worlds largest offshore powerboat series is now in its eight season, with more boats than ever in both 150 hp and 225 hp championships with confirmed entries of eighteen boats in each class. The 2006 Honda Formula 4-Stroke 150 hp and 225 hp Championships each feature ten rounds at five Grands Prix around the UK. The season kicks off with the Steam Packet Company Grand Prix of the Isle of Man at Douglas on June 24/25.
