Win an Icom Lithium-Ion waterproof handheld radio

THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED

Winner: Harry Crossley

How do you fancy winning a Icom M31 (R.R.P. £169.95)? All you have to do to win is write a User Review this month!

Icom's best selling marine transceiver just got better! They have added a Lithium-Ion version of its best selling transceiver, the IC-M31 to its range of waterproof handheld radios. The introduction of the BP-241 1150mAh Li-Ion battery pack and the BC-162 single desktop rapid charger as standard accessories adds greater reliability and reassurance to an already exceptionally good value marine handheld transceiver.

The Li-Ion battery provides larger capacity and a longer operating time than any Ni-Cd or Ni-MH battery pack and allows flexible charging without the risk of there being any memory effects to the radio. With Li-Ion is there is no need to fully discharge before recharging so you can top the battery up to make sure it always fully charged for whenever you need.

The IC-M31 carries many of the features that users have come to expect from Icom. These include one-touch channel selection TAG scanning; one-touch channel 16 selection; normal/priority scan selections; and dual/tri watch. There's even a self-check diagnostic feature.

The entries will be judged on how informative they are and we are going for quality over quantity. It doesn't have to be a positive review to win, you can write about something that you wouldn't recommend if you prefer. You can submit as many reviews as you like, but this won't give you an advantage if someone has only entered one really good one.

The winner will be selected and contacted at the end of February 2006 and will followed up by an article. So put your reviewing hat on and get typing!

How to write a user review

There are several ways that you can go about writing a user review on The Main Sail. The easiest way is to use the drop down menus located on the top of the left hand column for every page. You have three options to choose from:

  • Site section
  • Categories
  • Manufactures

By using either the Categories or Manufacturer options you can navigate your way to the product you wish to review. In a similar way by going to The Main Sail homepage or Gear section and scroll down to the 'Member Reviews' section, you can get the same options or use the search menu in this section to find specific products.

Once you arrive on either the Category or Brand you will see a selection of five products, with the choice to view all. If you don't know the specific product you are looking for, the view all option will show you all the products in that section. Alternatively if you do know the product then you can type into one of the search menus and it will find it for you.

Once you have clicked on to the product you will taken to the product page where you will be given the option to write a review. You will need to write a sum up of the product in a nutshell, the strengths, the weaknesses and how it performs over all. You are then asked to rate the product on its performance, reliability and value, thought you may have different options for different products.

You can only write one user review for a product, so make sure you make it good! I wish you all the best of luck in the competition.
