The 'Rolls' of batteries

Now available through Barden UK

The Canadians look set to colonise the UK for the very first time with Surrette's “Rolls” marine battery. Barden have just been appointed as the UK distributor and have every confidence that this long-awaited release will be a very welcome addition to their catalogue. Previously only fitted over here as OE on Oyster yachts, this great product is now available for ready consumption.

As the serious sailors on the other side of the pond will testify: this battery is the best product of its kind available. Specifically designed for the marine market, Surrette have taken boat owner's concerns on board: combining space consideration with long life and greater reliability. So, without further ado, here are some of the reasons why Surrette's Rolls battery is so popular:

Rolls Battery Engineering:

  • Specifically designed for the marine environment
  • Has the highest lead content, the most dense active material and the largest liquid reserve of any other deep cycle battery
  • Built in a modular configuration with removable cells on many types providing easier handling, transporting, installation and repair
  • Dual non-breakable containers
  • Average service life - Up to 10-15 years +
  • Unrivalled warranty - 4, 7 or 10 years dependant on type

New from the Rolls Range is the 12-HHG-325

If you are thinking of updating your power storage system, the new 12-HHG-325 Replacement system for 8-D installation has just been released by the Rolls Battery Company (and is available through www.barden-uk.com). Where the normal capacity for a standard sized battery (20 3/4" x 11" x 10") such as this would be approx. 200 AH, this new system can hold up to 325 AH of juice- a perfect excuse for keeping the tinnies cold and the radar on.

Aside from the capacity, this new system boasts a series of other benefits, including the modular design which includes removable cells weighing just 30 lbs. This makes installation very easy as each cell can be inserted individually, doing away with the cumbersome and awkward process of routine maintenance. Featuring its own Blue Seas Coast Guard approved battery box with removable cover, this new battery replacement system fits in the same space as an ordinary 8-D contained in a battery box, but is far more accessible. An added feature of the 12-HHG-325 is its "Hydrocaps" -specifically designed recombination caps that eliminate hydrogen off-gassing and, as a result, drastically reduce maintenance to once a year topping off.

In summary: 65% increase in capacity; improved cycle-life, low maintenance and foolproof installation, a success all round? Let us know what you think.

Rechargeable Batteries
Almost all cruising yachts nowadays run so many electrical and electronic items that the thought of going sailing without substantial battery power is about as ludicrous as going sailing without a rudder.
