The volunteer RNLI crew at Holyhead launched to a 39ft sailing vessel Lucky Jack, which developed engine trouble at around 11pm on Saturday night, after setting out from the Isle of Man.
With four people and three dogs on board, the vessel had broken down and was drifting towards busy shipping lanes.
Holyhead RNLI's all-weather lifeboat Christopher Pearce was launched and the volunteer crew found the vessel 10 miles off Holyhead, Coxswain Brian Thomson offered to put a man on board for the tow, but the crew felt able to man the vessel themselves as it was towed back to Holyhead Marina, where it arrived about 7.30am on Sunday morning.
Ray Steadman, RNLI press officer at Holyhead said: “Nobody was injured but the sailors were quite emotional and relieved to be back on land. All were wearing lifejackets, even the three small dogs. They had tried to rectify the engine problem and when they could not fix that they tried to use the sail but the jib locked up and they could not use that.”
