Standard Horizon's range of CP180, CP300 and CP500 chart plotters can now have radar capability, with a range of four radar antennas available from Marine Electronic Services Ltd. 12” and 20” (2kw) and 24” (4kw) radome models are available for yachts. There is also a 4' 4kw open array, more suited to power boats.
These new radar antennas take advantage of the high-speed interface port that is included with the Standard Horizon plotter.. All new Standard Horizon plotters are radar-compatible, and units bought previously can benefit from a simple, free of charge software upgrade giving radar functionality once the chart plotters are connected to one of the range of scanners.
The user can then choose from a dedicated radar display, split screen radar and chart plotter display or radar overlay on to the detailed C-Map charting image. AIS targets are also overlaid on to the radar image and the user can choose between ship's head, course up or north up modes as well as true and relative motion.
A guard zone alarm, target expansion and traditional EBL (electronic bearing line) and VRM (variable range marker) functions are available. The 2kw radome models feature a 30rpm scanner speed for fast picture redraw and a maximum 24NM range. The 4kw radome has a 36NM max range and the open array has a 48NM max range. All radomes will operate with a minimum 1/8 NM range for close quarters navigation.
The radar antennas are manufactured by Si-Tex but specially adapted by Marine Electronic Services Ltd to provide the high-speed data output suitable for use with the Standard plotters. Prices start at £799 inc VAT for the compact 12” radome, rising to £2,299 inc VAT for the 4kw open array.
