Holmenkol Wood Protector

Holmenkol WoodProtector A new high-tech solution to keeping teak decks looking smart has been announced by Holmenkol. The company says its new WoodCleaner + Brightener and WoodProtector work together to ensure that teak or other hard wood decks are restored and fully protected against the elements.

The WoodCleaner + Brightener is a two-stage treatment designed firstly to remove all traces of dirt and grease, and secondly, to return the wood back to its natural colour. Once the surface has been prepared with the Cleaner + Brightener, the new WoodProtector can be applied.

WoodProtector is a water-based nano coating that not only restores the original colour of the wooden deck, but also provides a fully water-resistant, non-slip deck surface, says the company. “In addition, the nano structure of the product offers protection from moisture, salt, algae and moss. This structure also ensures very high and long-lasting protection from UV rays - protecting the wood from bleaching over time.

“During the process of application, the nano particles organise themselves in layers, forming a completely covered multi layered coating. The layered structure means that the coating resists abrasion, because if one layer is damaged, a deeper layer is exposed and acts as a protection to the rest.”

Holmenkol WoodCleaner + Brightener The new products are the first to be launched following Holmenkol's agreement with Nanovations, the Australian coating technology company. In collaboration with Holmenkol scientists, selected Nanovations products have been modified and optimised for the use in the sport, marine and leisure markets.

I'm doing a bit of a spruce up while the weather is holding out, and my teak decks are looking a little tired- the teak is beginning to get a bit of a greyish tint.

I was wondering what I can do to brighten it up- I have heard that you shouldn't use oils as the teak itself has enough in it for it's lifetime? Is there anything else I can use?

So, my next question is- how can you tell when the decks need replacing? I'm the second owner from new- and these decks have been on board for about 8 years....?

I look forward to hearing your answers!

Anna
