The Dunbar RNLI all-weather lifeboat Sir Ronald Pechell Bt sustained “very serious damage” early on Saturday when she broke her mooring during a ferocious storm and was swept on to rocks at Torness.
The RNLI reports that the Trent-class lifeboat has now been recovered and is safely ashore. No one was onboard at the time.
RNLI volunteer crew and helpers together with volunteer coastguards, staff from Torness power station, Lafarge Cement Works, Coastal Marine (Eyemouth) and Bernard Hunter Ltd worked together d in the safe recovery of the lifeboat, avoiding any environmental damage.
The boat is being prepared for removal to a dockyard, where she will undergo a thorough technical investigation and RNLI staff are investigating the cause of the mooring failure.
A relief lifeboat is on its way to Dunbar. Meanwhile RNLI lifeboat stations from Eyemouth, St Abbs, North Berwick and Anstruther are providing search and rescue cover.
John Caldwell, divisional inspector for the RNLI in Scotland, said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who helped us to recover the lifeboat safely.”
