The latest high tech alternative to the good old rubber sailing boot is Helly Hansen's Helly Welly, described as a “design revolution in the offshore sailing world,” aimed at sailors “participating in extreme marine adventures.”
Incorporating Helly Tech XP for better breathability and freedom of movement, the new boot is claimed to be completely waterproof - allowing it to withstand the harshest and wettest environments. The Ultra Storm Grip rubber outsole offers an exceptional grip in the toughest conditions, says the company.
The high-quality lightweight EVA midsole supports the foot during long days, and the functional, stylish material made from carbon rubber, more durable than just about any other, allows for long lasting traction in tough terrain, claims Helly.
For calmer waters, the practical zip-free fold-down edge transforms the style to an ankle boot, and the heel-kick ridge construction allows the boots to be removed easily. They also have “reflective safety elements” for low-visibility conditions.
Available in navy/white, the Helly Welly is priced at £120 and comes in sizes 6-12.5.
