Marine Electronic Services Ltd is launching two new models of the Weatherbox Navtex and weather receiver at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show (January 11-20 at ExCeL).
Building on from the WIB2 launched last year, the two new models are designated WIB2BX and WIB2B.
The WIB2BX is a “black box” weather receiver for connection to a PC which comes complete with either a balun antenna adaptor (allowing a long wire or insulated stay to act as an antenna) or a dedicated compact active antenna. The ability to use a stay as an antenna removes the need to add to masthead clutter.
Connected to a PC via a standard USB interface, the Weatherbox displays messages received and stored. It has true dual channel receiver technology, allowing simultaneous reception of the two (518/490kHz) Navtex frequencies, so that the latest offshore and coastal information are always both available.
The unit also includes a barograph with seven-day log, said to be accurate to 0.1hPa, so pressure trends can be analysed to aid weather forecasting. Priced at £300 inc VAT, with antenna or balun, it is designed for permanent installation.
The WIB2B is intended for those seeking a portable solution. The self-contained Navtex receiver also has the additional barograph feature built in.
About the size of a packet of cigarettes, the unit has a rechargeable battery and internal antenna. It plugs into any Windows PC with Internet Explorer to display the data. Despite using a PC, there is no need for connection to the Internet and no charge for Navtex data. The WIB2B is priced at £250 inc VAT.
