Admiralty RYA plotter gets better

2008 Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter coverage Admiralty Leisure is to launch a new, improved version of the Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show at ExCel (January 11-20).

Revised for 2008, Edition 5 now contains just five Chart Packs, offering complete coverage of the UK and Ireland - representing vastly improved value for money. Each pack, which still costs the same at just under £50, covers nearly three times as much of the UK coastline as the previous edition.

The revision also promises improved zoom functionality (which has been the weakness of previous editions of this plotter software) and the ability to overlay manual Notices to Mariners on the chart.

The software is now also compatible with Windows Vista, as well as earlier Windows formats, and allows real time navigation when linked to a GPS system.

Charts in the 2008 Edition do not expire and can be updated by purchasing the new edition in 2009. Tidal data for 2008 can be downloaded for the previous 2007 Edition via the Admiralty Leisure website.

The Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter is designed to provide an affordable introduction to electronic navigation and is particularly useful for passage planning. The much wider coverage of each new area will be particularly helpful with this, as it will no longer involve swapping quite so many CDs!

Admiralty Leisure Product Manager, Emma Jones, said: “I'm thrilled to be able to launch the new Chart Plotter at The Collins Stewart London Boat Show, where customers can try before they buy.

“The Admiralty RYA Chart Plotter has all the familiar features of a standard Admiralty paper chart with the added benefits of a basic electronic charting system and is a truly great for voyage planning at sea or ashore.”

At the London Boat Show, Admiralty Leisure will also be unveiling:

  • A new Leisure Folio for Northern Ireland (SC5612). Priced at £42, the folio contains 23 A2-sized sheets offering comprehensive coverage of the area from Carlingford Lough to Lough Foyle, including Approaches to Belfast. As with all Admiralty leisure folios, the set includes small scale planning charts as well as large scale approach charts and marina entry charts.
  • Two new titles in the innovative Tough Chart range, covering the River Thames. In A3-sized spiral-bound booklets designed to meet the needs of RIB, dinghy and sports boat enthusiasts, the new waterproof charts cover The Thames (TC7) and Rivers and Harbours of the Thames Estuary (TC8). Covering the area from the Medway to Harwich Harbour, the two charts are priced at £45 each.

Visitors to the Admiralty Leisure stand at the ExCel boat show will also have the chance to take part in a competition to win an 80 GB iPod, including waterproof AquaPac case and Aquatunes earphones worth £250.
