Holt Nautos XR rope clutches

Holt Nautos XR clutch Rope clutches can be tough to let off, especially under load. At METS Holt Nautos introduced a new range which has overcome this problem. The new 'Xtreme Release' hinged two-piece lever allows easy release even under high loads. It also clips down securely, preventing accidental release as a result of getting a line caught underneath it.

Flip up the handle from its secure clip, and it folds back to give maximum leverage to free the rope. This clever design will suit both for serious racers and family cruisers - whether you're looking for the ability to blow a spinnaker halyard fast, or just trouble-free sailing with an inexperienced crew. The snap-shut lip, which prevents accidental release, is a useful safety feature for all.

Clutch on, lever down The range incorporates the XR1 and XR2 models, spanning rope sizes of 4-12mm. Each model benefits from a revolutionary cam mechanism, made from extruded and hard anodized aluminium. With teeth on both the upper and lower sides, it provides maximum load holding without stripping the rope, and takes little pressure to engage.

The clutches are strong and lightweight thanks to their long fibreglass/nylon body. They are attractively styled with black moulded cheeks and sculpted handles. Retro fitting is also easy: whether you choose singles or multiple bank clutches, each comes with the same fixing hole patterns as existing clutches.

Clutch on, hinge open The clutches have been thoroughly tested aboard the Volvo Extreme 40 Basilica and given the thumbs up by that demanding crew, so yachtsmen looking for control of 4-12mm ropes can have confidence in the new design.

Holt has been pioneering sailing hardware and accessories for over 60 years. With an established reputation for quality and reliability, high performance and affordability, the company supplies 90% of the world's dinghy builders. Its move into the yacht market is more recent, with the launch of the H2O brand a couple of years ago.

Clutch off, lever back This year Holt purchased 50% of the Brazilian brand Nautos (which made the H2O hardware) to form Holt Nautos, combining Nautos' manufacturing and new product development base and Holt's brand strength and global distribution network. Holt Nautos products are designed to cater for boats up to 145 feet.
