The Design Award METS (DAME) jury has short listed 34 products from the 138 submitted for consideration for the world's most coveted leisure marine product design prize.
A total of 107 companies from 19 different countries entered the 2007 competition for the best-designed product at METS. The jury will announce the category winners and overall winner on Tuesday November 13 when the Marine Equipment Trade Show opens in Amsterdam.
Yacht designer Bill Dixon was chairman of the international jury which assessed the products for design, functionality, materials and method of building, as well as impact on the marine industry, cost effectiveness, originality, ergonomics and overall appeal.
Britain's leading role in the international leisure marine market is reflected by the fact that British companies have the highest number of short-listed entries (7), followed by the Netherlands (7), Italy (6), France and USA (3 each) and Australia, Czech Republic, Germany, New Zealand, Slovenia and Sweden (one each).
The British companies with short-listed products are: Barrow International , Douglas Gill International, Garmin Europe Limited, Henri Lloyd Limited, Holt, ITT Corporation, Sea Sure Ltd, Secure Yachts Limited and Whale Water Systems.
TheMainSail will be at METS next month to report on all the latest innovations - including the DAME award-winners - unveiled at this global event, previewing many new products that will make their British debut at the London Boat Show at Excel in January.
