Lewmar's vertical 'V-series' stainless steel windlass for power or sailboats in the 9-15 metre (30-50 ft) range has been upgraded.
New styling, increased power control, additional safety features and 'FastFit' technology are combined in an improved version of Lewmar's popular V2/V3 windlass - providing real benefit to both customers and builders, says the company.
The deck unit, cast from 316 stainless steel, has a smooth radius base and is available with or without a stainless steel gypsy drum. Beneath deck, a robust, reliable worm gearbox offers strength and control.
Available in 12 and 24-volt versions, with either a V2 gearbox, providing a maximum pull of 760 kg (1670 lbs), or V3 to achieve a maximum pull of 1020 kg (2240 lbs), the windlass takes rope-chain or all chain anchor rodes at the touch of a button.
The windlass design incorporates a fall safe lever to stop the chain from accidentally spilling out and each model is also 'chain counter ready', with a magnet and sensor fitted as standard.
The upgrade V2/3 features Lewmar's innovative 'FastFit' technology, which speeds up the installation process by clamping the drive shaft of the deck unit to the gearbox below deck. A 'Fast Fit Clamp' is used to secure the gearbox in one of eight positions. Once in place, a locating dowel is pushed home and the clamp shut. This makes windlass installation on decks that slope away or offer limited access quick and hassle-free.
Lewmar provides a variety of models in the upgraded V2/3 range to suit different chain and rope diameters. Units come with optional gypsy sizes to suit 6-mm, 7-mm, 8-mm or 10-mm chain and rope from 12- to 16-mm. An optional manual override and open pipe version is also available on these windlasses.
Lewmar Marine plc is based at Southmoor Lane, Havant, Hampshire. The company was formerly known as Clyde Marine. The name change was approved in August.
