The Simrad Yachting SA50 SART (Search and Rescue Transponder) has gained a special mention in the Lifesaving and Safety Category at the METS Design Awards (DAME), today (15th November 2005) at the Marine Equipment Trade Show.
Simrad Yachting offers a lighter and smaller SART to provide professional vessels and smaller leisure craft with a safety package that could save a life. Designed to be as convenient to stow as possible, the SA50 is the smallest SART on the market today.
The SA50 was announced at last year's METS so we are particularly proud to be honoured with a special mention at this year's show. We feel that this illustrates our commitment to product development and further recognises our expertise as a leading manufacturer of safety equipment to the marine industry, says Dave Sheeky, Product Manager for Communications at Simrad Yachting's Margate design and manufacturing facility.
Although it is not compulsory to carry a SART on a leisure craft, the unsurpassed size and weight of the SA50 makes it ideal for keeping onboard any leisure craft. A SART is used as a homing device as part of the required GMDSS package specified for use on SOLAS vessels. It has also been recommended for racers by the ISAF Offshore Special Regulations Category 2 for the Rolex Fastnet Race 2005 that a SART is packed in a grab bag for life rafts.
This special mention follows last year's DAME Award for the B&G RemoteVision, which was chosen as joint winner of the Marine Electronics category. No actual winner was chosen in this year's Lifesaving and Safety Category.
