B&G launches next generation WTP2 at METS 2005

B&G, the Performance Sailing Division of Simrad Yachting will launch its most powerful instrument processor yet at METS 2005. The new WTP2 (Wave Technology Processor) offers a flexible platform for Grand Prix racers to view wind information with precision, quickly and easily.

WTP2 improves performance by accurately calculating and correcting for the effects of boat motion from the measurements of the wind at the masthead. In addition, WTP2 displays all data in 'real time' with display outputs of up to 10Hz to minimise data display delays. It is currently being used extensively by the America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race, Transpac 52s, and ORMA 60 Trimaran fleets in addition to numerous performance race boats.

“WTP2 enhances our already highly competitive h2000 instruments and is ideal for serious race teams and customers requiring bespoke solutions for high performance boats,” says David Minors, Technical Director at B&G.

The WTP uses rate gyros to measure 3D boat motion, and eliminates inaccuracies from the measured wind readings, resulting in the most accurate wind data available. Variables such as Apparent Wind Speed and Angle are back-calculated making wind numbers consistent during manoeuvres.
