Tacktick staged an unwanted but impressive gear test during the Laser SB3 Nationals at Hayling Island Sailing Club last week.
The first day of the four day event saw windy conditions with plenty of drama. Tacktick, helmed by Russell Peters with James Grant and Tacktick's sales director Greg Wells, was actually sunk as a result of a collision involving Lawrie Smith.
The boat was recovered and repaired overnight and was out on the water again the following day. The Tacktick Race Master still working despite the prolonged immersion. Apparently the Race Master was reading -6m when the boat was raised from the bottom of Hayling Bay!
The 60 boat fleet of Laser SB3's at the Nationals all sail with Tacktick's Race Master solar powered speed and depth instruments as standard kit. Many of the boats in the fleet have upgraded to the new, second generation Tacktick Race Master which was launched earlier this year and includes a number of new features.
The new Race Master features a two tier display showing heading, distance above and below mean course, lifter/header information as well as countdown timer. A new Start Line feature shows which is the favoured end of the line as well as helping crews sail the shortest distance to the windward mark.
The new Race Master also boasts improved viewing angles, larger digits and Polaroid friendly screens. As with all Tacktick products the Race Master is wireless, waterproof to 10m and lightweight (445g), essential for the SB3 fleet. It retails at £499.95.
For the record, Tacktick recovered from her dunking to finish the event second overall. Glen Bourke in Musto was the overall winner.
