Barton gear onboard for the Alpha Global challenge

Adrian Flanagan
On Friday 28th October, Adrian Flanagan set sail from Hamble Point Marina on his quest to become the first yachtsman to attempt a solo non-stop circumnavigation via the Polar Regions. Barton Marine, a sponsor of the Alpha Global Expedition, supports Adrian with his challenge and has provided complete deck gear for his yacht Barrabas, a Trireme 38 Mk IV.

“We were interested to hear the announcement of the Alpha Global Expedition,” says Paul Botterill, Director at Barton Marine. “Adrian Flanagan's ambition and determination is exhilarating and the planning of this type of expedition is immense. The circumnavigation will be intense and it is vital that the equipment onboard provides Adrian with the necessary assistance to successfully complete his challenge.”

Barton Marine is one of the leading UK manufacturers of deck hardware and has stockists around the world, providing yachtsmen and women with the right tools to 'Control the Power' when cruising or racing. Barton has provided Barrabas with high performance deck gear that is lightweight yet both strong and durable to withstand the constant demanding use during the 30,000-mile journey ahead.

The extreme conditions that these blocks will endure will be more than the entire working life of the average block. Barton's range of cruiser blocks are ideally suited for the harsher environments that Adrian Flanagan will encounter during his expected 300 days of sailing, before his planned return during July 2006.

“We send our best wishes to Adrian Flanagan, the best of luck for his remarkable challenge, and a safe return home,” concludes Botterill.
