A date has been set for Sail Aid 2007 - an annual fundraiser for charitable organisation Sail 4 Cancer - so southern-based sailors should put Saturday 1st September in their diaries now.
Unlike many sports-based charity fundraisers - involving running, cycling, or some other form of personal challenge - the Sail Aid organisers ask only that you have fun to raise money for a good cause. The event combines a music festival with a water-side location at the Silver Wing (formerly British Airways) Sailing Club in Staines, and you can keep up-to-date with the line-up of bands on the Sail Aid website.
Bands that have already confirmed their attendance include:
- Atom Split
- One Knight Only
- Silversweet
- The Bearded Ladies
- The Blue Veins
- The Wafoos
Admission is free and a BBQ, bar, and family entertainment are all part of the package, as well as the evening's entertainment. Best of all, any money that you spend on your burgers and beer will go to Sail 4 Cancer, which provides sailing experiences for individuals and their families affected by cancer, and gives grants for equipment in cancer wards.
Kick off is at 3pm and to be on the spot you need to head for Silver Wing Lake, Staines Road, Wraysbury, Staines. TW19 5AG. It's near the junction of the M25 and A30 and you can find the exact location on google maps.
More information is available on the web from Sail4Cancer and Sail Aid or you can email communications@sailaid.co.uk for the latest on the event.
See you there!
