SeaSafe foulies conceal lifejackets

In the commercial marine sector SeaSafe pioneered the development of foul weather coats that feature integrated lifejackets, and more harbour pilots around the world wear SeaSafe jackets than any other type. Now the company intends to convert the leisure sailor to the benefits of wearing a coat that is also a lifejacket.

SeaSafe Systems Ltd has announced the world launch of its all-new Voyager range of marine safety clothing, to be unveiled at the Southampton International Boat Show (September 14th to 23rd).

Aimed at the leisure sailor it's clothing that not only looks good and is highly practical but it could also save the wearer's life.

Launched with the slogan “Being safe never looked this good”, Voyager will be the world's only fully concealed lifejacket within a coat range specifically aimed at the leisure marine sector. Initially the range will consist of four products:

Trekker

The stylish looking Trekker is a sleeveless gilet that is comfortable to wear yet is fitted with SeaSafe's concealed lifejacket system (CLS). Perfect for warmer months or warmer waters no one need realise the wearer has a lifejacket on, but should the user go overboard this gilet will operate in exactly the same way as a standard lifejacket:

Trekker has a fully automatic self inflating system with a full 165 Newton's of buoyancy and self righting mechanism - it could represent the most comfortable way to save your life, says SeaSafe.

The Trekker is made from a premium grade ultra breathable outer fabric and will initially be available with two colour combinations: grey/black or red/blue. The gilet has large capacity pockets, a fleece-lined collar and a crotch strap.

It will retail at £179.95, which SeaSafe says is good value when you consider that it's both a practical item of clothing and a lifejacket.

Explorer

The Explorer coat is a standard length blouson with SeaSafe's fully concealed 165 Newton lifejacket system (CLS). This high quality foul weather coat features elasticised hem and cuffs and is manufactured from a premium grade breathable fabric outer and lightweight drop liner.

The jacket has multiple pockets including one inner flap pocket, two large inner zipped pockets and two external zipped pockets. Fitted in the fleece-lined collar there is a neon yellow hood with 3M Scotchlite SOLAS reflective tape that is also fitted to the cuffs. The coat also has fully waterproof taped seams.

It's available in fashionable two-tone black/grey or red/blue and options include a recovery becket and hi-fit trousers. Explorer will retail at £229.95, the same price as many other high quality jackets on the market, with the benefit of an integrated lifejacket and the peace of mind in knowing your lifejacket is "always on".

Mariner

Mariner is similar in specification to the Explorer but is a full-length jacket, again featuring the SeaSafe concealed lifejacket system (CLS).

It's loaded with features such as outer box pockets, zipped inner pockets and an under fly pocket. The collar also comes with a fleece-lined storm flap, concealed hood and all seams are taped. Available in colour combinations black/grey or red/blue, Mariner will retail at £249.95.

Hi-Fits

Complementary hi-fit trousers are available for all the clothing range and are made to the same exacting standards.

The normal retail price is £79.95 but if purchased with any coat on the SeaSafe stand at the Southampton Boat Show you can get them for the special show price of £49.95.

Xtreme

Xtreme is the world's first all-in-one suit to feature a fully concealed lifejacket system (CLS). Representing a radical new approach to foul weather protection, Xtreme has been designed to give ultimate protection to those who regularly use an open boat, whether RIB, sportsboat or dayboat.

Manufactured from the same high quality breathable fabric outer and lightweight drop liner, it's also fitted with twin internal adjuster straps and leg adjusters to ensure maximum comfort and fit. Xtreme also has both internal and external pockets. Additionally, it has a neon yellow hood with 3M Scotchlite SOLAS grade high visibility tape.

Available in two-tone black/grey or red/navy, the Xtreme mono suit will retail at £299.95.

As with all SeaSafe clothing the new Voyager range can be purchased direct from Cowes based SeaSafe. All items are available through the SeaSafe website which features a secure online store. And to celebrate the launch of the Voyager range SeaSafe is giving away a free carry bag with any item of Voyager clothing ordered until the end of this year.

Whilst watching the America's Cup on Sky (and wasn't it great & well done - esp the last race) it was clear that the crews involved had yet to be nagged by the Health & Safety risk averse brigade.
Yes, lifejackets are important and in some conditions they should be worn by all, but come on, all the time! They will be telling us to wear hard hats and safety boots next, and, probably fining us if we don't!
