Contender UK is launching Dynakote, the first sailcloth to incorporate Holmenkol nano technology, on sailmakers' stands at the Southampton Boat Show (September 14th to 23rd).
Dynakote is a lightweight spinnaker fabric primarily intended for use on one design boats. By incorporating the revolutionary nano-technology coating available from Holmenkol, Contender says this sailcloth will have increased water repellence, a higher tear strength, lower friction and give better wear and longevity without any additional weight or loss of flexibility.
Holmenkol coatings are made up of tiny (nano) particles which bond to the surface of the material they are applied to, organising themselves in layers.
The multi layered structure reportedly means that the coating resists abrasion, because if one layer is damaged, a deeper layer is exposed and acts as a protection to the rest. High water repellency and low friction are achieved without adding any weight to the cloth.
Contender says Dynakote offers benefits both in finish and performance. The nano technology not only prevents water from soaking in, but also ensures that the sailcloth becomes more durable and less prone to cuts or nicks, thus lasting longer and retaining both shape and performance. It has already proved itself in the harshest environment winning many world championships, says the company.
Contender adds that Dynakote fabric is available now through sailmakers.
