Helly Hansen has entered a three year partnership agreement with the Ericsson Racing Team as the official supplier of clothing and footwear for the team's entry in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008/09.
The Ericsson Racing Team will enter two boats in the race, one with an international crew skippered by American John Kostecki and one with a Nordic crew skippered by Swede Anders Lewander.
The team selected Norwegian-based Helly Hansen as a partner because of the company's leading technologies and wide product range in offshore outerwear, base layers and footwear, as well as their line of nautical inspired sportswear.
Helly Hansen has started a special project to develop new technologies that will give the Ericsson Racing Team an additional advantage in the race. This commitment also includes new and progressive designs for the shore team and sponsors, with the intention of helping to make the Ericsson Racing Team sailors and supporters stand out from the crowd.
“We see the Volvo Ocean Race as a perfect match to the Helly Hansen way of life,” says Karl-Einar V. Jensen at Helly Hansen. “Our core messages 'work, survival, sport' and 'Helly Hansen as the protective and enabling layer between human will and nature's forces' perfectly describe the extreme challenges all equipment and sailors face in the Volvo Ocean Race.”
