Wenger, the manufacturers of Swiss Army Knives, have brought out a new knife designed specifically for sailors.
It's called the Wenger Alinghi Knife and its special seaworthy features include a re-designed blade, which is more resistant than that of existing models. Not only that, but all the metals and alloys used in its construction have been triple treated to make sure they don't corrode in the salty waters of the good old Med, or any other cruising ground.
The knife's been stringently tested at the Swiss national materials testing centre to make absolutely sure of its resistance to corrosion - and that's not the only top quality testing it's received either.
Followers of the America's Cup will be familiar with the name Alinghi - the defender of this year's title and the yacht that gave its name to the Wenger Alinghi knife. Well, the association goes beyond the name. Alinghi's crew themselves contributed to the design and testing, and they'll each be taking a shiny new specimen along with them on their America's Cup campaign.
Meanwhile, for the average MainSailer, the Wenger Alinghi will be on sale shortly and you can buy it from Whitby & Co. SRP is £89.95, so it takes a bit more than pocket money, but then again, it's a piece of safety gear and, as with most things, you get what you pay for.
