Sharing many of the Farr family qualities, the Jongert 29m Design is a performance orientated cruising boat, and the first in a new style of designs from Castro's drawing board.
The deck is designed with Mahogany accents in key areas and Teak decking throughout. In keeping with the traditional Jongert detail the seating area is and a mix of varnished surfaces and bare teak.
In terms of performance Castro and Jongert have developed a hull shape that is capable of good sailing performance yet able to cope with the interior fit-out that owners have come to expect nowadays.
As with previous designs the hull canoe body has a medium/low Prismatic Coefficient, first to help light air speed, which cruising boats need most, and secondly to benefit a deeper engine room under the saloon. The buttocks aft are straight for a very clean stern wave and it is moderately fine forward, with a slight Vee in the sections to reduce slamming.
Castro explains:
“We are always striving to find ways of keeping the weight down, which has been achieved via rigorous weight watching programs during construction, and consideration for each individual item on the boat. The structure is all aluminium with lightening holes at every available opportunity and yet within Classification Societies. It is still built to Lloyd's and carries all the detail that makes Jongert's what they are. This design can be built for as low as 90 Tones.”
The Sail Plan is a high aspect ratio design, cutter rig, and the owner has a choice of carbon fibre or plate aluminium mast. The lighter Carbon option is expected to be the most popular option, offering increased comfort and performance.
The deck layout features twin steering stations with controls available to hand and large sailing instruments for better viewing. This allows a clean passage either side of the slim centre console to the transom. Most of the deck is clean without fittings or visible deck gear and all winches are captive except for the two large Gennaker winches aft. These are also very useful for maneuvering into stern-to marina berths.
In front of the steering area and behind the open wheelhouse there are two sun bed areas where cushions can be fitted. The transom door opens to allow access to a spacious lazarette. In this design the dinghy is carried in the foredeck like other smaller Jongert's.

“The interior layout was developed by us in a sympathetic way to Jongert usual designs and further developed and detailed by the Jongert design office. Behind the veneers, headliner and insulated floors you will find good old-fashioned Jongert engineering and its usual obsession with quality in the design and fit-out, where quality must not be compromised for speed. My aim was above all to design a sound yacht that sails well.”
