Anyone who sails offshore is well aware that up to a third of body heat can be lost through the head, and the percentage increases in wet and cold conditions, so it is vital to have the right headgear.
Henri Lloyd has just introduced the Ocean Neck Gaiter and Ocean Racer Balaclava, which despite the “ocean” tag are intended for use by both dinghy and offshore sailors. They are manufactured from stretch micro fleece fabric, to offer insulation and protection.
Also new to the range are two updates of the 'beanie', the stretchy Fleece Hat, said to combine a snug fit with insulation and warmth, and a Wool Acrylic Hat.
As the weather gets warmer, you can put away the woolly hat, but your face and head need to be protected from the sun's rays, and Henri-Lloyd's Fast Dri range now includes the Fast Dri Tech Sun Hat. Its broad rim aims to offer greater protection from sunburn, in particular to the back of the neck, as well as protecting the eyes from glare. This hat claims a UPF factor of 50+.
The other essential sailing accessory is a good pair of gloves and Henri Lloyd has developed a new range for 2007, working alongside Team GBR Olympic Classes Squad 2003/04, focusing on ergonomics and the use of specialist fabric technology to deliver durability, grip and dexterity.
Different types of gloves are required in conditions, and for different roles on board, and the new range aims to offer something for everyone.
The Stealth MAXGRIP Glove has been developed for optimum performance while dinghy and sportsboat sailing, The palm and fingers offers superior grip via MAXGRIP technology, which is a sticky synthetic rubber, designed to deliver higher levels of grip and articulation while offering protection against rope burn. MAXGRIP is also resistant to water absorption. Kevlar thread is used throughout for maximum strength and durability
The Stealth Pro Glove has the same level of technology and innovation, but uses Amara, a synthetic leather, in the palm and finger area, for reinforcement, protection and durability.
Both gloves are available in short and long-fingered forms and have a Neoprene wrist band, combined with a touch and close strap, while the back of the gloves is constructed from a nylon stretch mesh for maximum flexibility.
A selection of Offshore and Ocean gloves has also been developed. For colder conditions, the Stealth Winter Glove combines the thermal and water resistant properties of Neoprene with the benefits of the new MAXGRIP technology on the palms and fingers.
For bigger boat sailing, the new Offshore Racer Glove has been developed to offer insulation, 100% waterproof and breathable protection. A synthetic leather is used on the palm and fingers to protect and improve grip, while a double cuff system should stop water getting in.
A new Fleece Glove with synthetic leather reinforcement can be worn on its own for light thermal protection or as an inner glove with the Ocean Racer Mitt.
