Avon Inflatables is donating one of its latest Ocean liferafts to Lin Griesel and Rachel Smith to ensure their safety at sea during the Woodvale Challenge Atlantic Rowing Race.
Their journey will start on December 2nd in La Gomera, Canary Islands, and it is expected to take them almost 3000 miles and 70-100 days to reach Antigua.
The two women are embarking on this challenge of a lifetime in the hope of raising £100,000 for Breast Cancer Care.
In the unlikely event that anything goes wrong, Lin and Rachel have the reassurance of knowing that they will be in safe hands as Avon liferafts have had more successful rescues than any other brand, including the longest liferaft survival in history - 117 days.
Alan Morgan, managing director of Avon, said: "It is highly commendable what the ladies are doing and we at Avon are very proud to support the challenge. It is a worthy cause and we wish both Lin and Rachel every luck in the race and succeeding in raising the £100,000."
The need for a liferaft and appropriate equipment underlines the potential danger of the challenge, but Lin and Rachel will both be reassured that the liferaft meets all ISAF regulations, and will also be equipped with an Atlantic Rowing Race pack which includes additional equipment including leak stopper, sea anchor and torch.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women in this country. Each year, there are nearly 42,000 new cases in the UK alone. The £100,000 that Lin and Rachel are hoping to raise for Breast Cancer Care will ensure that the good and much needed work of the charity can continue.
