Helly Hansen Shorehike 2

Helly Hansen Shorehike 2 The versatile Shorehike 2 boot design features two sets of removable inner bootees making them suitable for a variety of conditions. The unusual design comprises an inner bootee, sockliner and a combined midsole and outer. This allows you to customise your footwear to suit your needs.

Using Helly Hansen flagship technological fabrics LIFA and Helly Tech XP, these sailing boots are suited to cool and warm waters. In warm conditions one can opt for the red LIFA sockliner which moves perspiration and external moisture away from your feet to the outside, and will keep your feet cool.

However when the temperature drops and you want to keep contact with cold water to a minimum, you can choose the blue bootees, made from Helly Tech XP. The waterproof, breathable fabric ensures your feet stay dry.

Once removed from the outer, the sockliners should be rinsed in fresh water after use. Not only does this protect the shoes from any nasty bacteria or damaging salt, but it should also eradicate foot odour.

Built for comfort as well as performance, the Shorehikes have adopted some of Helly Hansen's best technologies. C-Zone cushioning material built into the sockliner insert is strategically placed under the heel. Also aided by the spongy qualities of a light weight EVA sole and ergonomic fit, the Shorehike offers a very comfortable ride.

An Ultra Storm Grip sole offers multidirectional grip system thanks to a sticky rubber compound. Using the W² Water in - Water out system the outsole allows for the bulk release of water through strategically placed ports to maximise the speed of drying after immersion

Retailing at £100 the Shorehike 2 is only available White/Red/Navy. For further information visit www.hellyhansen.com.

Verdict

Their unconventional design is striking, if not a little garish for my liking. However they performed well both in and out of the water; offering good grip and fitted well. Being able to wash the insole was a godsend, too - no more smelly feet for me! Apart from being a little on the expensive side they exceeded all my expectations and I would be happy to own a pair.

If you look at the Quaywest Marine website they are retailing for £80.95 which is a good bit cheaper.
