Henri Lloyd Deck Grip Profile trainer

HL Deck Grip Profile Trainer Manufacturer Henri Lloyd claims that the Deck Grip Profile is a new breed of sailing trainer. Constructed from non-absorbing, quick-drying reinforced nylon 'air mesh,' the shoes offer fast draining and breathability. The Dri-Lex EVA insole not only supplies the wearer with comfort, but can also be removed at the end of each day to improve the shoes' drying ability.

The dual compound outsole features sticky rubber on the ball and heel while a series of water dispersion channels are said to deliver further grip and stability. In addition the non-marking sole is razor cut both horizontally and vertically for extra grip. A shock absorbing mid-sole unit with reinforced arch makes for an ergonomic fit. The Deck Grip Profile also incorporate a speed lacing system to the toe, which ensures your foot stays stable on deck.

While on the boat and on the shore the Henri Lloyd Deck Grip Profile sailing trainer gave me fantastic grip. Their sturdy, almost weighty feel, even kept me stable while walking in and out of the water on a heavily weeded slip ramp. It was ideal having a pair of shoes that gave a seamless transition from normal to sailing wear.

Sympathetically shaped to he contours of the foot, the arch support was ample. The speed lacing system that runs the full length of the shoe supported without constricting any movement. The pinnacle of the lacing was positioned over the highest part the foot. This was a more comfortable alternative to more conventional lacking.

Though the Deck Grip Profile did have very good draining ability, the shoes required socks for a comfortable fit. The design has a single piece of fabric concertinaed to make both he tongue and side of the shoes. The excess fabric rubbed against the top of my foot causing a blister without a sock to shield the area. This was annoying as socks leave your foot feeling damp until they are removed.

Retailing at £54 the shoes are available in Grey, Grey/Navy or light brown in sizes from 3 - 12.

Verdict

If you're planning to keep your feet out of the water the Henri Lloyd Deck Grip Profile sailing trainers offer great grip and comfort, but if you are going to get into the water you'll be left with soggy socks.
