Crewsavers Winter full-fingered sailing gloves are among a range of new gloves launched by the brand.
As the name suggests, the gloves are designed for sailing in the colder months. Their neoprene backs not only provide excellent insulation against cold, but also trap a thin layer of water that is heated by the body and keeps the wearer warm - like a wet suit.
Crewsaver claims a key features the gloves is 'seamless reinforced finger wear patches.' But turning the glove inside out shows they are not seamless. Some manufactures offer a seamless design for comfort, but the only way it is possible to have a completely seamless product is to glue or fuse materials together. This doesn't usually offer as strong a bond as stitching and so is not very suitable for rope-pulling gloves.
The Winter gloves instead use flat seams to join the Kevlar grips to the Amara artificial leather, which does not cause any irritation while wearing them. This offers a good grip and makes them comfortable to wear even when wet. Unfortunately they don't seem to dry very fast, but this does not compromise their performance in other areas.
The gloves are very comfortable and do not hinder movement. With only a thin layer of Amara at the tips of the fingers, you retain some feeling while wearing them, though not quite enough to untie a tight knot. Fingerless pairs are also available however.
The Velcro wrist adjuster offers some variation in fit for different size hands, but there is only a small tab giving limitations on sizing. The bottom of the gloves have been shaped to accommodate a watch, not scratching the face and making it easily visible.
It was really nice to find the fingers of the Crewsaver Winter gloves didn't turn inside out when removing your hand. This saves time as you don't have to spend ages pulling the finger back through to the right direction.
Only available in Navy, the Crewsaver Winter gloves come in sizes XS - XL and retail for £18.

A good pair of winter gloves for a deck hand or trimmer. They offer both excellent grip and dexterity along with the thermal qualities required for this time of year.
