The Nexus NX instrumentation suite is new for 2007, offering cruisers technology usually associated with high-end racing systems. The high-quality, compact units feature wireless connection to the wind transducer; making them easy to fit and upgrade to the Nexus NX2 racing system if required.
The heart of the NX system is the Sea Data display. This interfaces either directly or via a compact 'black box' (WSI - wireless sensor interface) to display speed and depth, the two most important pieces of information for every yachtsman, on its large, high visibility screen. It also displays total distance travelled and water temperature as well as providing deep and shallow alarms and a start timer.
The addition of an optional wireless wind transducer makes for a cable-free installation on carbon, aluminium and wooden masts. The installation is said to be simple and you are given instant access to true and apparent wind speeds and angles. The twin-finned wind transducer establishes a unique pairing via radio with the WSI connection box at the core of the NX instrumentation system.
This ensures that it is on a different frequency from all your other radios so it doesn't cause interference. The information can then fed from the WSI connection box to both the NX Sea Data and wind instrument.
The twin fin design makes this a highly stable and accurate wind transducer. The batteries are continuously recharged by a small solar panel mounted on the transducer arm, have a life of around three to four years, and are easily replaced.
For those looking to upgrade their NX to a racing specification all that is required is to add an NX2 server. The Sea Data displays are fully compatible with the racing system, and the user simply adds more displays as required. This means you can upgrade at your own pace and don't have to fork out for the whole set up at the same time.
