Maybe it's to do with advances in material technology, but dry bags were relatively unheard of not long ago, and now new ranges are popping up all over the place.
Crewsaver has come up with a versatile range of duffel-style dry bags under the label Bute, with capacities from 5 to 100 litres. The waterproof roll back seal not only keeps your kit dry, but also keeps air in if you want to use them as buoyancy bags in an emergency, says the company renowned for tis sea safety equipment. Or in the case of the smaller bags, you could put valuable items in with enough buoyancy to make sure they float if dropped overboard.
The bags - available in black only - are made of abrasion resistant material with a heavy duty base and a D-ring for lashing to make sure they don't go over the side. There's also a semi-transparent ripstop panel so you can see what's inside.
The smaller bags (they come in 5, 10, 20 and 40 litre sizes) cost from £9.95 to £14.95. Three larger sizes, 55, 80 and 100 litres, are fitted with shoulder straps to make carrying them easier. They cost from £16.95 to £19.95.
Top of the range are the Bute Portage dry bags, in 80 and 100 litre sizes, which have adjustable back straps with chest and waist straps, so they can be comfortably carried rucksack style. (£22.95 for 80 litre)

Complete with user instructions printed on the inside, and a panel to write your name on the base, this range of multi-purpose, and relatively inexpensive bags will find plenty of uses on any sized boat, from personal kit bags to emergency grab bags and much more besides.
