Sail 4 Cancer is looking to recruit clubs and marinas to join in a major fundraising event. Opening their doors to the local community and inviting them to “Tea by the Sea” should not only raise awareness of the charity, but should also provide a fun afternoon for all involved.
Some clubs are using the event as an excuse to hold a day of informal races and competitions; others will be attracting new members through “try sailing” taster sessions in different boats. Behind it all however will be the opportunity to help Sail 4 Cancer to improve the lives of people living with cancer.
Anyone can get involved. All you need is a good supply of tea bags, milk and sugar plus a selection of cakes, biscuits, scones, or if you really want to push out the boat, a fondant fancy! Cucumber sandwiches are optional, as are doilies, lacy napkins, chintz cushions and pointing your little finger.
What you don't necessarily need is the sea! With a little bit of resourcefulness, imagination and getting into the spirit of things, “Tea by the Sea” can take place anywhere, from sleepy coastal bays and busy ports to central city canals and land locked lakes. Proximity to a kettle is the only requirement. And if you feel that the sound of lapping waves is missing, just add a seaside theme to your décor, dress up as pirates, have a go at a nautical quiz - you could even try the charity's tasty rum flapjack recipe.
How do I get involved?
