I don't think there has been a Christmas gone by that I haven't received a pair of socks from Santa. But rather than a festive pair sporting some cartoon character holding a stocking, this year I am hoping to get a pair more suitable for sailing. And when the Helly Hansen Midwinter sock came into the office for testing, it was very quickly added to my Christmas wish list!
If like me you only have a sorry old pair of rubber sailing wellies, then you will know the importance of wearing a good pair of socks. Not only do they keep your feet nice and toasty, but they can also help to prevent blisters.
My feet felt very comfortable wearing the Midwinter socks, which feature a padded footbed which wraps around the Achilles tendon for protection and durability.. Made from a blend of Lifa technology and merino wool they are not only warm, but also have wicking ability so my feet weren't left damp and sweaty. It also means that they smell a darn sight nicer at the end of the day than socks of the non-technical variety.
Due to their varied construction, with several different styles of knitting featuring in the design, they are harder wearing than a standard pair. A thicker knit at the heel meant that there wasn't a blister in sight after a long day's sailing. And what's more; the Helly Hansen Midwinter socks are perfect for the stocking of any sailor at only £10 a pair. Bargain!
