Think of Holt and you tend to think of sailing hardware for the dinghy and sports boat markets. But now the well-established and respected British company has moved into the big boat market, with a new range of yacht and motorboat hardware, branded H2O by Holt.
The range was on display at METS and attracting plenty of attention.
“It has been a very exciting dynamic year for us,” said director Ben Dunton. “We are a very trusted British brand. We have been in business for 61 years, and we have not moved too far from our founding values: to create a high performance, cost effective product.”
The company says the aim of H2O is to combine quality with exceptional value and the new range incorporates:
-
H2O Ball Race Blocks: Available in 39, 57 and 75mm. Functional, strong, long lasting and reliable. Conventional ball bearing design with optional aluminium sheave on roller bearings for higher loads.
- H2O Ratchet Blocks: Ball bearing ratchet block with aluminium sheave. With on-off ability under load.
- H2O Runner Blocks: Machined blocks with composite bearing for high radial load and ball bearing side loads.
- H2O Maxi Blocks: Highly polished stainless steel for big boats. Aluminium sheave over composite bearing for performance and durability.
- H2O Offshore Blocks Aluminium high load blocks from 57 to 100mm, machine roller/ball bearing blocks. High load version using Torlon® rollers.
- H2O Stainless Steel Hardware: High quality 316 stainless steel fittings and rigging accessories.
- H2O Ocean Master Bottle Screws: The very highest quality stainless steel with bronze inserts to allow self-lubrication movement under load.
- H2O Aluminium Deck Fittings: Marine grade anodised aluminium fittings for yachts and powerboats.
- H2O Winches: Innovative low volume design maximises comfort by reducing deck space and weight.
Ben said the range will cater for yachts up to 130 feet. And it is well tested in demanding, high performance situations: the outstanding VX40 Team Basilica had all H2O deck gear, he said. “It proves we can compete!”
The winches in particularly caught my eye. They have an off-centre pin, which looks decidedly odd, but makes absolutely no difference from the winder's perspective.
However, it offers significant advantages: it allows more room for gears inside, and the larger drum means fewer rope turns are needed to create the necessary friction. “It sits nice and low on the deck, too,” said Ben.
