Careers Day at the 2006 Southampton Boat Show was a great success, attended by more than 750 school children aged from 8 to 16. Now the idea is being expanded: the London Boat Show has announced Careers, Skills and Education Week.
This will take place within the show from Monday 8th to Friday 12th January 2007. The National Boat Shows team is partnering with Newham City Council on this new initiative, as part of its strategy to engage more closely with the local community.
School children will be spending a day at the show, learning more about the wide range of skills and careers available within the marine industry.
Show organizers say: “This is a great opportunity for exhibitors to get involved through promoting their company and the marine industry to a large number of school children, and subsequently, their schools and families. The NBS team will also be promoting the week via all its marketing material, the show website www.londonboatshow.com
and the local media.”
Exhibitors are invited to get involved in a variety of ways:
- Offering to show schools around their stand (boat or product) and explaining about their business/ careers available/ or products that would be of interest to school children
- Sending educational/ promotion material to the NBS team, which can be used in an “education pack” which will be mailed to the schools before the Show.
- Inviting the schools on to the stand to meet a personality who could talk to them about careers in the industry (e.g. ocean-going sailors, apprentices, boat builders, yacht skippers etc).
Exhibitors interested in getting involved with Careers, Skills and Education Week are asked to email schools@londonboatshow.com
