In January we ran two competitions on the Forum, in each case to win a Casio Sea Pathfinder watch worth £25. The two threads involved were Predictions for 2008 and New Year Resolutions.
There were some amusing entries in our Predictions for 2008 thread - a mixture of dire warnings about global warming (one saw the Solent left high and dry, another everyone keeping their yachts in their flooded gardens) and wish fulfilment - like the provision of 100 per cent accurate weather forecasts from the Met Office.
Then the thread was hijacked by a debate about ways of dealing with MOB situations. So we've decided that the prize should go to Tony Smith, who not only made the most predictions - but also contributed a useful post to the MOB debate.
Meanwhile New Year Resolutions also had some fairly common themes: it seems we all want to lose some weight, drink less and spend more time sailing!
The prize goes to Glyn Wild whose target for the year is to “achieve the perfect work life balance by not working at all.” We were particularly attracted by this retired management consultant's plan for “de-motivational workshops.”
So congratulations to the winners, and don't worry if you didn't win this time - just enter our February competition.
Our next forum prize is a Gill Quick Dry Towel, worth £20. This super-absorbent, lightweight, quick-drying towel is ideal for life on board. A generous 90 x 150 cms, it is big enough to get you dry, but packs down remarkably neatly in its own compact mesh carry-bag. In practical grey, it also has an anti-bacterial finish.
For a chance to win this extremely useful item for your sailing kit bag simply add a post to our February forum competition thread. Since MOB is such an important subject, and there's a danger that the useful thoughts posted under Predictions for 2008 will be missed, it seems a good idea to start a new thread to highlight the issue.
For a chance to win the prize, put down your thoughts and ideas about the most useful techniques or pieces of kit for getting an MOB back on board - or experiences of using them, either in practice or for real.
It's something we should all think about before the sailing season starts. So let's have a really meaningful debate! The prize will go to what is judged to be the most helpful and constructive contribution made to the thread.
The competition will close on Friday February 29. Yes, it is a Leap Year!
