I have a 28'Twister yacht and wish to extend my season and have heating onboard. I would like to use diesel so as not to have another fuel onboard. With space being at a premium I'm thinking that I can replace my faithfull Origo with a similar sized gimbled Wallas 85DP hob for the cooking and have a blower lid fitted which on the new models has the fan actually in the lid and can also be gimbled. Has anyone had one of these hobs and could you let me know how it performs? I'm sold on the idea but it's big bucks and i really need some objective criticism quick if it's out there.The main problem besides the cost as i see it, is the slowness in heating up and is the heat controllable enough? I do have two large batteries on the domestic side and a Rutland 913 to keep them topped up so battery power for start up should not be a problem.

Sorry, Scotty, no experience to offer. Sounds like a good plan though. And diesel is definitley the right fuel for onboard heating. We have only had heating for the last couple of years, after 20 odd without, and it really does make a fantastic difference to early and late season cruising. The cost is therefore easily justified by how much extra use you will get out of the boat.

Scotty, I added an Eberspacher D1LCc to our Hunter Horizon 26. It burns next to no diesel, sure the voltmeter takes a dip for the first couple of minutes, however, after that it ticks away and at the lowest setting keeps the saloon etc at 12 degrees. An e-bay purchase ex BT unit also bought the stainless exaust outlet a length of outlet pipe for the warm air and away you go. I also by-passed the one hour timer BT fit to let it run non stop if required. I only have one 85 amphour battery charging from the Yanmar 1GM10, no probs yet! Get one, you know you want to!!
