Sailing in the Med, in summer, normal leather deck shoes tend to be hot, have poor grip on a wet deck and wont dry out quickly. Do any manufacturers make a shoe that has a good grip, laces up for a secure hold but has an open-weave, fabric upper ( bit like a swim shoe) that will allow water in and out easily ? Thanks, Albert Ross

Their are loads on the market. It really dpends how much you want to spend. I think Helly Hanson do some quite good ones, but it is worth looking at dinghy brands as there will be a wider selection.

I have personally tried the Merrell Aqua sport and find them really good, but I do love all the merrell shoes so I am probably a bit bias.

Just bought a pair from Musto, which are very light (take a look at their web-site) also saw a nice-looking pair in the Henry Lloyd shop in Lymington the other day.

Think I have seen those in Ocean leisure - Very nice. How much did they set you back?

Actually I tried to buy a pair off ebay, but was outbid 3 seconds before the end of the auction - so just got a pair from the Musto site instead. £65 next day delivery.

Not bad. How much were the ones on e-bay?
|
 |
Less - naturally. In fact there are a couple of pairs on ebay at the moment (just search under Musto and shoe). They go for around £40 including postage.

not bad at all... Have bought a few fakes on e-bay though so would be weary, but when your saving 30% definately worth a look

My present preference are mocs by Rockport (with or without laces) they are light, have a very good grip and you can wash them in a washing machine!

I haven't found a good pair of deck shoes as yet - but have an excellent pair of sailing sandles - Keen Newport closed toe sandles - perfect for sailing as the ropes don't get caught between the sole and your toes, and also the toes are as little protected in case you try kicking something accidentally! Brilliant shoes and would recommend them for the sunnier climes for sure. You have to buy them from the internet though - or at least that is my experience.

Did a lot of sailing in sandels while racing dinghies in Turkey, but have always been weary of wearing them on a yacht as you are leaving yourself open to injury. A couple of companies make closed toe sandles, but they dont look very nice in my opinion, though it is down to personal taste.

Have to agree with Roxy there - not sure I would like to be on a yacht opend toed!
