We are going to the French canals in a couple of weeks and we are still unsure of which route to take.

We have a Sealine 28 with 2 diesel engines which we know is not ideal, any tips would be brilliant!!!!

thanks

Crossing the channel/North Sea would be a good start!

Where are you going from and to? How long you plan to be away for? How hard do you want to work? How many people on board who can take a watch?

Give us some more details and sure you ll get some help.

Sorry, Ok, maybe the info was a bit sparce!!!!!!!!!

We are crossing from the Medway and we are not sure whether to go down to leHarve or go straight into Calais.

Diesal is an issue of course and although we have purchased 5 books we are still unsure of the diesal position.

Crossing is not a problem as it will only take a couple of hours to Calais and we can hop down to Gravelines or Honfluer or go in at further down.

There are two of us, time is not a problem and we are both fit so the main problem is really fuel and depth.

We are going all the way  to the Med and will leave the boat there for next season.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, whilst we are reasonably experienced we have no experience on the canals.

We aim to take the CEVNI next week and we hope to leave in two weeks.........this was all planned for next year but circumstances unexpectadly changed and so we feel much less prepared than we had hoped!

Thank you...........hope you can help

I ve not done the canals route myself - wouldn't mind having a go thou. If the boat was a bit bigger and time not a factor then I d be tempted to port hop down through the Bay of Biscay in the summer months.

I d suggest that you have a look at this website - there is a wealth of info there.

The other alternative - which as a seaman I hate to suggest - but maybe quicker and eventually cheaper is to go by road transport...

Should have said too that you can download the CEVNI regulations from my website in pdf format.
