Hi all,  i am taking my boat to the canaries from mainland spain,  the route i will take goes from conil de la frontera accross to tangiers and hugs the west coast of morroco and africa.  my question is has anyone done this before and does anyone know of refuelling points along the west coast of africa.

All I am aware of is pirates!!!-there have been numerous incidents particularly off West Sahara-they come out in Ribs cut your throats,throw you over the side and nick off with your boat-SERIOUSLY!!

Seriously there is a very serious problem off north west Africa and whilst there are international patrols in the area trying to deal with illegal immigrants Western Sahara which I believe is the country in this area is involved in a war with various Guerrila groups and as such much of the area is highly insecure with ships and yachts being targets.

These people are armed to the teeth and very unpredictable.

General advise is as far as I am aware to keep well offshore.

Same of course in The South China Sea where pirates  "nick" oil tankers and bulk carriers!
