If it was winter on Saturday and spring on Sunday, it was summer on Monday

Funny old weather pattern, I seam to remember that this time last year we experienced a mini heat wave for about 3-4 weeks between April and May, then the rest of the summer was crap.
I sailed Suki down from Whitehaven to Glasson at the end of Feb this year in the most bizarre conditions, we set off about 0400hrs in quite chilly conditions, by the time we had Sellafield abeam the sea was flat calm and we were treated to the most spectacular sunrise over Blackcombe, of which the lower slopes were shrouded in mist and not a camera on board between us..........anyway back to the weather flat calm condition motored in to Morecambe bay and stood off Lune to await HW. We all got our faces sunburned in Feb???? whats all that about, we could have been in the med. temp. got to just over 20deg.
As I said, funny old weather let see what it has in store for us this summer. Only 9 weeks befor the nights start drawing in...............

Hi Possy

Yes, February was great. We did our antifouling and polishing in T-shirt order on two consecutive weekends, got the boat in by the end of the month, and then all hell broke loose in March! But is it a return to normality? We have had classic March winds and now April showers. So maybe we'll have a proper summer? Flaming June? Fingers crossed....

We're heading round S Foreland to the Solent in two weeks, so hoping we'll have the traditional early May north easterlies. But what's the betting it will be south westerly gales again by then, like it was all last summer? (At least the days will still be getting longer....)

Greek Summer Time for us. We leave this weekend, driving to Preveza this year as we have so much new kit to install.  My favourite local weather station is currently showing southerly force 2 wind, air temperature 22C. Sounds OK to me!

Not much posting from me until October. Hope everyone has a good summer, with better weather than last year in UK.

I was out on boat this morning temp 5 deg C. Wind E 25 knots gusting 30 but at least managed to commission my new autohelm. On days like these the most comforting and evocative smell is a just-lit gas stove to make coffee. Flying to Preveza two weeks time thankfully.

Well here in the north west Highlands at 14-00 its 15 C in the shade and nearly 30 in direct sunlight-despite a ground frost first thing-yes its brilliant sunshine up here with a few high clouds here and there despite easterly breeze-same yesterday-great sailing weather if a little cold. But then just reading Mawsons account of his antarctic expedition circa 1912-1914 where sledging parties were experiencing 80 F in the sun  but almost minus 20 in any shade!

Another great day at last spent tidying boat-even managed to rescue my Danforth which went over side last autumn with a tripping bouy but too deep to recover other than on a calm day at low tide.Hooked it this afternoon.Came up with remains of light anchor line which my prop luckily destroyed-a long story!
